A food craving is an intense desire to consume a specific food, stronger than simply normal hunger. Probably the best way to combat cravings is to have enough of every nutritional element, include every food group in your meals, exercise regularly and make a conscious effort to beat stress, anxiety and sadness.

Here are some tips to help you fight food cravings :

1: Drink More Water

Lack of water can send the message that you are thirsty and on the verge of dehydration. Dehydration can manifest as a mild hunger, so the first thing to do when you get a craving is drink a full glass of water.

2 . Take More Sleep

Most of us are sleep deprived. When our bodies are tired and in need of rest we experience more stress and our blood sugar levels fluctuate very easily. This causes our body to crave for sugar, processed foods, and stimulants.

3 . Eat Enough Protein

Eating too much protein or too little protein can lead our body to have cravings. Often when we are craving sugar it is because we need more protein in our diet. Even vegetarians should take a small amount of protein with every meal.

4 . Ignore the Stimulants

We all know that stimulants are addictive. As soon as we have them our body wants more. Sugar, caffeine, alcohol, junk and processed foods all fall into this category. The more we eat them the more our body will crave.

5 . Eat Green Leafy vegetables

Green leafy vegetables are the best way to nourish your body. Not only are they filled with vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals, but they also give tons of energy. The more you eat them the less your body craves for sweets and processed foods.

6 . Eat According to Season

Eating with the seasons helps balance our body and give it what it needs.

7 . Don't Use Food As a Substitute for Something Else

Being stressed or having an inappropriate exercise routine, being bored or tensed may all cause emotional eating. Try to avoid it as much as possible.

8. Learn to Tune In

Try to tune into what your body wants and needs. Once you learn how to do that, you will understand how to reduce your cravings and feed your body, not your mind, what it wants.

9. Stay Away From Temptation

Remove easy temptation from your daily routine as it will definitely help you to avoid cravings.

10. Distract Yourself

Taste buds have a very short attention span. Distract yourself from craving by getting busy in some activity. In many cases, youll find you werent really hungry.

11. Self Control

"People give in to cravings because they think they lack self control. Food cravings behave like waves: They build, crest, and then disappear. If you can "surf the urge," you have a better chance of beating it altogether.

12. Exercise

It increases feel-good endorphins that cut down on your cravings. Try to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day.

13. Never Skip a Meal

Eat every three to five hours. Try six smaller meals or regular meals with nutritious snacks.
